I decided it would be a good idea to make a listing of the countries I’ve visited as well as any posts I have relating to those countries. As of now, this country list is based off of The Travelers’ Century Club’s list of Countries and Territories. The date listed is the date of most recent visit to the country.

Nice start. Just 48 to go for the TCC.
Well, 58 to make it to 100… but I don’t plan on stopping there! You an join the ‘club’ once you visit 100 of the countries and territories on their list, but there are 324 different places on the list! Maybe some day I’ll make it to them all 🙂
The amount of things that the Travelers Club counts as countries really irritates me.
The number of countries that exist is definitely a hard question to tackle, it all depends on who you ask. I like the TCC’s list the best, though I definitely agree that it’s not perfect.
I made the decision a year or so ago to stop looking at Most Traveled People. I get the appeal for the ultra-extreme collectors, but the divisions to me are just so arbitrary (every state in one country while not counting any in another) and when I look at a lot of the list I have minimal interest in going back to some of these places to get ones I missed. I get it it that this is originally by and for people who completed TCC and are addicted.
I like TCC on the whole because it has gotten me to some great destinations I otherwise may have overlooked. Last month was Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha. Some of my favorites are Bismarck Archipelago and Prince Edward Island. Plenty to quibble with, though, like how the heck can Venezuela’s Margarita Island suddenly be added?
I agree that the country divisions for MTP are somewhat arbitrary, but I really like their map as a way to visualize where I’ve traveled to. I don’t necessarily plan on going back to places I’ve missed or going to places just because they’re on the list, though. I also really like the UNESCO World Heritage Site tracker on MTP, that has definitely steered some of my travels, and it’s cool to keep track of which once I’ve visited and which I haven’t, because when I go back to places it gives me a good starting point. Granted, it is totally possible to track that without MTP, I guess I just like their interface.
I did not realize they added a UNESCO tracker, that I will use!
Yeah it’s pretty awesome! This year they updated it right after the new sites were added too, so that was great!
