My upcoming trip is a little, well, maybe a lot, out of the ordinary. I am riding my bike across the country to raise money for cancer research and awareness about cancer! It’s through a program called 4K for Cancer and it benefits the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. There are four different rides, all starting in Baltimore, MD and ending in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and San Diego. There is also a run from San Francisco to Baltimore. I head down to Balitmore next Wednesday (one week!!) so I’ll have time to have my bike re-fit, meet up with some FTU friends, and for our mandatory safety/training day. We take off from Baltimore Inner Harbor a week from Sunday (6/2).

Each group is made up of 30 or so young adults, riding for other kids just like us. This is definitely going to be the most different (and difficult) travel experience I have ever had; we are mostly going to be sleeping on the floors of churches, and we will be pedaling ourselves across the who country — but talk about a cheap transcon! Think the 4,500 (not a straight shot) miles will credit to United? 😉 I’m so excited for the journey that lies ahead of me, and I will definitely be blogging about it the whole way! It will take on a pseudo-trip report style and I’ll do my best to keep up with current happenings in the points and miles world as well. But mainly, I can’t wait to share the stories; take a look at this video. I think you’ll all agree that Zach’s energy is amazing. Even though I didn’t ever meet him, he is such an inspiration to me, and I hope I can pass some inspiration along. Live your life, do what makes you happy, and don’t forget to tell your friends and family that you love them.

On a completely different note, I wanted to celebrate my first official week on F2B by having a little giveaway!

I have 10 AwardWallet Plus upgrade coupons available [for first-time users/upgraders only!]. If you aren’t already using Award Wallet and you are interested in the hobby, there is never a better time than now to start, and if you do have an AwardWallet account, but haven’t upgraded it, this is perfect for you too! AwardWallet will keep track of almost all of your point balances (some programs like Delta and Southwest don’t like to share though). More important that keeping track of my balances though, it keeps track of all of my account numbers. Rarely does a day go by where I don’t log into AwardWallet to look up an account number for one program or another. I highly recommend making using of this service!
