This is a pretty awesome Visa Signature benefit I discovered last summer while in the Bay Area.
Free Wine Tastings and Discounted Wine in Sonoma, California
This benefit isn’t available at every winery, but it is available at quite a few. You can view the whole list here and check out a map of all of the locations here.
Benefits include any of
- Two complimentary tastings per cardholder
- Savings on wine and non-wine purchases same day in Tasting Room
- Savings on Reserve tasting and special wine and food pairings
Benefits may vary by winery, so you may want to call ahead and double check which benefits they do offer.
Visa signature cardholders also save 15% off Pure Luxury Transportation, which is a fantastic option if you plan to drink a lot of wine on your visit to Sonoma.
In reality this benefit blows big time. Everywhere we went that listed the benefits had some strange/terrible wine to taste as the “free” taste. For example, Gloria Ferrer offered us a free tasting of a moderately sweet sparkler and a merlot…. Merlot? At a good sparkling producer? Anyway they had some nice vintage sparkling wines that we paid to taste… But that was the norm. The free taste was typically garbage. Not worth going unless you plan to visit the particular winery anyway!
Good to know, Daniel. I only went to two of the wineries that had the benefit, and I also don’t know much about wine in terms of being able to tell a good one from a not good one.
I also am not knowledgable, but Napa is Red (Cab Sauv, Merlot), and Sonoma is larger and has more varietals including White (Chardonnay, Zinfandel). Napa is just a bit more expensive/elite and has 6 Michelin Restaurants to Sonoma’s 4.
